A selection of sites with information on paths and tracks that can be accessed by walkers and cyclists.

Heritage Paths
Website of the Heritage Paths Project. This is a very useful and informative site which contains details on access, routes, and historical information for a large number of interesting paths.

The site of the Scottish Rights of Way Society. It contains a downloadable leaflet of paths in the Lammermuirs (see Downloads).

Paths Across West Lothian
Site dealing with old drove routes in West Lothian.

Draft Core Paths Plans
The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 required Councils to develop a Core Path Plan which would allow the public reasonable access within a county on a network of core paths.
The link is a Google Search page (May 2009) where most of the plans can be accessed in the first few pages - alternatively type in a particular council on the search page.

Scottish Borders Council
Downloadable leaflets on various paths: viz. Berwickshire Coastal Path, Borders Abbeys Way, Dere Street, John Buchan Way, Pennine Way (north), St Cuthberts Way and Southern Upland Way.
They also have leaflets on cycle trails.

South of Scotland Countryside Trails
Details of routes in the Cheviots, Ae Forest, a cross-border drove road, and routes in Tweeddale.

Forestry Commission Scotland
Information on forest trails throughout Scotland.

Falkirk Council
Downloadable leaflets: Countryside paths in and around the Falkirk Wheel (2 maps); Denny path network; Discover nature trails in the Falkirk area; River Avon heritage trail; Discover the Antonine Wall.

Dumfries & Galloway Tourist Board

Southern Upland Way
Full information on this long distance route, including downloadable leaflets. The route incorporates many known historic paths.

Ayrshire Paths
Details of many cycling and walking routes in Ayrshire. Includes historical information.

Scottish Walks
Register for a digital copy of this free magazine. Each issue contains numerous walks.

The West Highland Way
Guide to this long distance path between Milngavie and Fort William which incorporates old drove roads, military roads etc in its course.

St Cuthbert's Way
A long distance route between Holy Island and Melrose. Contains historical information and links to other interesting routes.

Pentland Hills Regional Park
